Key Points
The Pembroke Refinery in Wales is a key base for energy powerhouse Chevron, with an annual oil refining capacity of more than 10 million tonnes.
In late 2007 the company asked Ledwood to undertake maintenance work 12 months later on the plant’s important FCCU. It would mean a Ledwood workforce of up to 150 delivering a complex, time-critical programme.
Ledwood senior commercial manager Doug McIntosh said: “Shutting down for FCCU maintenance means loss of revenue for a refinery – big, big money - and any over-run of maintenance work is extremely costly for our client”
“We’re conscious that the client must be able to start back up on time; our professional, businesslike relationships and carefully managed contracts mean that jobs are executed safely, economically and to schedule.
“In this case, we participated in the drafting of a highly detailed plan, sourced personnel from our workforce and the wider labour market, undertook a detailed procurement programme, set up sub-contracts and drew up method statements and risk assessments to facilitate the issue of permits.”
Building on an established close relationship with Chevron, an expertly delivered maintenance programme followed. Ledwood were on site for several weeks and handed back the facility on time and within budget.
